School Council Minutes – meeting held 21st May 2014
Today we took our meeting to the Junior School where we held a joint meeting with the junior school councillors.
We got to know each other by saying our names and year groups. Year 5 were unable to join us because they were on their school journey.
The Infant councillors started the meeting by sharing with everyone what they have been doing so far in their role as councillors:
- We had our photos taken for our display.
- We have helped Mrs Roberson to sort the books in the library into old books, tatty books and books that have more than one copy.
- Mr Jones from Herts Catering came to ask us our opinions about school dinners.
The junior councillors then told us about the jobs that they have been carrying out:
- They have asked their classes to decide on a hamster or a rabbit as a possible school pet.
- A letter will be written to the Chair of Governors inviting him to a meeting to discuss the possibility of a school pet.
- They are planning an assembly to the whole school about the new pet.
- Problems arising in class are taken and discussed in their meetings. As a result new soap was purchased for the toilets.
- The children wanted to do more experiments in science so Miss Simmons is now running a science club.
- Suggestions about music for the school disco have been collected and given to the DJ.
As a special treat we all went to the pond to see the ducklings who are now 10 days old. They are still going everywhere with mum who protects them from the weather by tucking all 14 of them under her wings! They will be taken down to Batford Springs when they are 6 weeks old to be released into the wild.
